Born and brought up in a family, quite alien to music Jaya carries no musical heritage. She started with the Sitar as a mere curiosity that led to search of a proper Guru. Her long search came to an end at the Gurukul of Ustad Usman Khan. Under his able guidance and strict discipline, Sitar to Jaya is now a life long quest.

Performances

Starting from scratch Jaya concentrated more and more on music and now has started giving solo performances. in her home town Pune, she has performed for prestigious organisations such as : She has offered her musical services in the festivals held at Temples such as :
And Dargas: At holy places: She has also won the approval of the esteemed Ustad Alla Rakha Saheb in a Jugalbandi.
Jaya has been awarded the Pushpalata Ranade Award for instrumental music.

Jaya has participated in Television Educational films as well. Besides solo performances she participated in a group orchestra composed by her Guru USTAD USMAN KHAN which stole the show at OSHO ASHARAM. Main part in U.G.C. films and lecture demonstrations at S.N.D.T. College, Pune University, Womens' International Club, Sanskar Bharati's Cultural Wing , Penn-In-India & Bawa Lalwani Public School (Kapurthala) are also to her credit.
Nearly for three years Jaya enjoyed grooming children at the 'Sahyadri School' of Krishnamurti Foundation, Rajgurunagar as a visiting Sitar Guru.

Jaya's music presentation is appreciated by many music lovers, and now to reach many more, her audio cassettes and CDs of raags - Bageshri - Durga - Khamaj are released by Flash Music.
Jaya has also written a book 'GOF-DUHERI' (in Marathi) - her very first attempt - that contains a heart touching account of student-teacher relationship. This book is published by 'Granthali' a very prestigious publishing house - and is highly appreciated by the readers from all layers of society. It is translated into with the title 'DUET ON STRINGS'
She continues her tutelage under her Guru and as a part of her learning teaches Sitar too.
