Based in Pune, India, Naad is a registered charitable
trust, dedicated to all aspects of Indian classical music
and dance. It has blossomed from a tiny seed called
Vishwamohini(Enchantress of the Universe), established
25 years ago by the Sitar Maestro
Ustad Usman Khan
The main objective of Vishwamohini was to groom
young students to become stage performers. In 1995
Vishwamohini spread out its wings to a wider horizon
and opted for a new name "Naad" (Cosmic Sound), the
basic element of music. 'Naad Mandir' (The Temple of
Cosmic Sound) is truly a temple, where disciples from
the world over inherit the unique musical heritage of ancient
India, in the scientifically proven tradition of "Gurukul".
Besides the technical training of sitar playing, the grooming
of the musical mind is also carefully observed at Naad, because
Ustad Usman Khan's strong conviction is, that ultimately music is
nothing but an expression of the mind.
Naad offers scholarships to promising students. To arrange workshops
for school children, to organize lecture demonstrations of
other instrumentalists, through which the students of Naad are exposed
to the rich heritage of Indian music are some of the objectives of
Naad.
Basically Naad functions purely on educational level and not as any
music circle.
Naad accepts donations, which are exempt from Income Tax under
